We are writing to inform you of an important update to our online prescription policy. Beginning June 1, 2025, we will no longer be approving prescriptions to third-party pharmacies via fax, online portal, or phone. When fulfilling third-party pharmacy requests, patient safety is always our top priority. Each request is carefully reviewed by our dedicated prescription manager to verify correct dosage, ensure a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR), and confirm that your pet is not overdue for important services such as blood work to monitor organ function. Once reviewed, the request is then forwarded to Dr. Carlson for a second verification before it is approved. This thorough two-step process currently requires approximately 20 hours of staff time each week—without any compensation. In the face of rising operational costs, we’ve considered increasing prices but would prefer to avoid that. Instead, our solution is to streamline the process by providing written prescriptions. Moving forward, you may pick up a written prescription from our office and either bring, email, fax, or mail it to the pharmacy of your choice. If you live a considerable distance from the clinic, written prescriptions may be mailed to you on a case by case basis.
This modest fee helps cover the cost of DEA licensing, state pharmaceutical licensing, veterinary licensing, staff time, and the use of compliant prescription pads.
